About The Living Abstract

Art has a way of finding you when you need it most.

For decades, Crystal Carlton brought beauty and intention into people's homes through interior design. When disability led her to step away from her career, she turned to something she had always carried with her — creativity. Picking up a brush became more than a hobby. It became purpose.

Based in the coastal region of Southern Maine, Crystal is surrounded by the very landscapes that inspire her work. The rhythm of the ocean, the play of light on water, the quiet drama of the Maine coast — all of it finds its way onto her canvas. Her paintings span dutch pour and tilt pour fluid art, abstract compositions, and landscape-inspired pieces that carry the unmistakable feeling of the sea.

Every painting at The Living Abstract is an original, one-of-a-kind work created with care and intention. Whether you're drawn to the movement of a tilt pour or the calm of a coastal landscape, Crystal's work is designed to bring that feeling home with you.

With more than 25 original paintings sold to collectors across the country, Crystal's work has found homes from New England to the West Coast — each one a one-of-a-kind piece that will never be replicated.

"This art deserves to be in a gallery, not my home. It's so beautiful I cried the first time I saw it. This artist needs a home goods store contract!"

— Stacy, Somersworth, NH

"I've stayed in many 5 star hotels in Dubai and your art and interior design is far superior to anything they have. Your art reminds me of my childhood and takes me back to days I had forgotten."

— Rizwan, Somersworth, NH

"I absolutely love my Ocean Waves painting!"

— Judy, Wells, ME

"I love my Sunset Trees painting and proudly display it in my living room."

— Gary, Wells, ME
